The Australian superstar is back with her 14th full-length, and this time, she looks to Nashville for inspiration. Golden was mostly recorded in the country music mecca, and the city’s sounds come together w/ Kylie Minogue’s signature synth-dance repertoire. Personal and full of storytelling, the album certainly benefits from the new, bold approach, and Minogue succeeds in presenting a different brand (but still somewhat familiar) of glittery pop, one that’s crafted with rhythmic guitars, chiming piano, and plenty of tambourine, not just synthesizers/drum machines. Check out “Dancing,” “Raining Glitter,” “A Lifetime to Repair,” and the title track.
